Steinhauser: Kasich tells NH1 News he's already under attack but holding off on firing back for now

CONCORD – John Kasich says “I’m already under attack” from rival Republican presidential campaigns.
And the Ohio governor and GOP presidential candidate told NH1 News that “they’re already spilling acid on me.”
Kasich made the comments when answering a question from NH1 News during a brief question and answer session with reporters following his appearance at a Americans for Peace, Prosperity, and Security forum on national security.
During the forum, which was moderated by this reporter, Kasich was asked about the vows from some of his GOP 2016 rivals to rip up the controversial Iran nuclear deal on their first day in the White House.
“I don’t know what that means. They’re going to rip it up and then what?” Kasich quickly responded.
But before he went any further in taking on his rivals, Kasich said “I’m not going to say much because I have cameras here and the minute I say anything about the people in this race it’s headlines. I’m not doing that. I’m just talking about for me.”
Asked later about his refrain, Kasich told NH1 News hinted towards his low name recognition, saying “at this point in time people need to know who I am and what I’m for and what I’m doing. And you know, I don’t know what the future’s going to bring but right now it’s working pretty well. I’m second in New Hampshire.”
Kasich was referring to the most recent two public opinion polls in the Granite State, which both indicated him in second place, trailing frontrunner Donald Trump.
Unlike many of his rivals for the GOP nomination, Kasich has steered clear of criticizing Donald Trump, the frontrunner in the latest polling of likely primary voters. Speaking one-on-one with NH1 News at the Milford Labor Day parade on Monday, Sununu said there will eventually be a need for contrast.
“They’ll be a time when we’ll have to talk about comparatives but I don’t think it’s now. I’m pleased with the way all coming,” Kasich said.
And Kasich said told NH1 News on Tuesday that when that time comes, he won’t shy away from that eventual fight.
“I’m not going to shrink, nobody who has followed me over the years thinks I’m a shrinking violet. OK. I’m not,” Kasich told NH1 News on Tuesday.
