BOSTON -- With 116 delegates at stake and the two latest polls indicating she has a single digit lead over Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Hillary Clinton is tag-teaming with her husband to campaign in the three largest cities in Massachusetts on Monday, one day before the state’s presidential primary.
The former U.S. secretary of state will hold events at the Museum of Springfield History in Springfield at 9:15am and at the Old South Meeting House in Boston's Downtown Crossing at 12:15pm. Former President Bill Clinton will end the day with a late night (11:15pm) get out the vote event in Worcester.
The Clintons don’t have the Bay State to themselves. Sanders holds a rally at the high school in Milton, just south of Boston, at 7pm.
Clinton holds a 50% to 42% lead over Sanders among likely Democratic primary voters in Massachusetts in a new Suffolk University poll released Sunday evening. The survey was conducted Thursday through Saturday. Clinton had a five-point 49%-44% edge over Sanders in a WBUR/MassINC poll conducted Feb. 21-23.
Massachusetts is one of 11 states holding Democratic presidential nomination contests on Super Tuesday. Other than Texas, no other state has more Democratic delegates up for grabs on Tuesday. With Clinton expected to win big in many of the delegate rich southern contests on Super Tuesday, the close contest in Massachusetts is increasingly in the national spotlight.
"We are going to compete for every vote in every state," Clinton said Saturday night, referring to the Super Tuesday contests. "We aren't taking anything for granted."
On Face the Nation on CBS Sunday morning, Sanders predicted that “I think we're going to do really well in Massachusetts.”
