CLAREMONT – One of the leading conservative activists in the Granite State is backing Donald Trump.

NH1 News was first to report that Andrew Hemingway will endorse the Republican presidential front runner Tuesday evening at a rally in Claremont. The Trump campaign said that Hemingway will “play a key role” by serving as a state co-chair in New Hampshire.

“I love the people of New Hampshire and have made many great friends over the years. We have a great team in place, the biggest crowds and continue to lead all the polls. Andrew is a great addition and with his help we will win New Hampshire and Make America Great Again!” Trump said in a release obtained by NH1 News.

In 2012, Hemingway served as the state director for Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign, and he is a former chair of the New Hampshire Republican Liberty Caucus. He’s currently the CEO of, a New Hampshire-based business that employs over 200 Granite Staters.

Hemingway ran for governor in 2014, losing a hard fought primary campaign to eventual nominee Walt Havenstein.

The Trump campaign touted in their release that Hemingway “abandons Cruz campaign.”

Hemingway had endorsed the senator from Texas a couple of months ago as part of the conservative 603 Alliance’s backing of Cruz.

“Mr. Trump built the most robust grassroots network out of all candidates in the race. He has engaged thousands of Granite Staters who had never found a reason to participate in the past. He is earning the support of these voters with the straight-talk they have been seeking for years,” Hemingway said in a statement released by the Trump campaign.

“Mr. Trump has the business experience and leadership abilities that the other candidates in this race lack. We cannot afford to elect another Washington insider that promises one thing and does another,” he added.
