Steinhauser-First on NH1 News: Hillary for NH out with gun control video; plans Saturday 'day of action'

CONCORD – Four days after her town hall at Manchester Community College on gun control, Hillary Clinton’s campaign in New Hampshire is going up Thursday with a new video in which the Democratic presidential candidate says “we have to raise the intensity” in the push for new gun laws.

And NH1 News has also learned that Hillary for New Hampshire will hold a statewide grassroots “Day of Action” on Saturday.

The video shows Clinton meeting with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a group pushing to convince lawmakers “to make sensible gun reforms to protect children and communities from violence.”

“For the other side, their single issue is protecting guns. If we’re going to really make changes, then we have to raise the intensity. Legislators have to know that they’re going to pay a price if they don’t support sensible gun control measures,” Clinton says in the video.

Clinton’s gun control town hall on Monday came just four days after a gunman shot and killed nine people at a community college in Roseburg, Oregon.

An emotional Clinton asked “how many people have to die before we actually act, before we actually come together as a nation.”

Clinton spelled out her proposals, which include pushing for universal background checks, closing background check loopholes, and allowing victims to sue gun manufactures.

White in the first-in-the-nation primary state, Clinton also met with Manchester resident Erin Kerwin, who’s neighbor was shot and killed on her block last month, and Nicole Hockley, a gun control advocate who’s six-year old son Dylan was murdered in the December 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Over the past week, as Clinton's highlighted her gun control push, Republican groups have pushed back, reminding voters that when she was running for the White House the first time in 2008, the then-senator from New York appealed to Second Amendment supporters.

Saturday, Clinton’s New Hampshire campaign plans to send grassroots supporters across the state to go door-to-door engaging voters.
