CONCORD – Dick Cheney is returning to the first-in-the-nation primary state in January.
NH1 News has learned that the former vice president will speak at the New Hampshire GOP’s “First-in-the-Nation Presidential Town Hall” on January 22.
Republican State Committee Chair Jennifer Horn will announce on Friday that Cheney will open the two-day event, which is expected to attract many of the current 15 candidates for the GOP presidential nomination. Also speaking will be the vice president’s eldest daughter Liz, a former State Department official who’s also been played many political roles in the Republican Party and who briefly ran for the U.S. Senate in Wyoming in the 2014 election cycle.
“We are thrilled to welcome Vice President Dick Cheney and former State Department official Liz Cheney to New Hampshire for our First-in-the-Nation Presidential Town Hall,” said Horn, in a statement obtained by NH1 News.
“After the terrorist attacks on 9/11, Vice President Cheney’s extensive foreign policy experience made him a critical voice within the Bush Administration, helping lead our country through one of the most difficult eras in modern history. His lifetime of public service will provide event attendees with an unmatched perspective of high stakes politics and what it takes to govern in trying times. We look forward to hearing them speak about their time in public service and their thoughts on the national security issues we face today,” she added.
The former vice president, who’s long been a very vocal critic of President Barack Obama, Thursday evening headlined a major fundraising gala for the Republican Party of Florida.
