Stefany Shaheen asks Gov.-elect Chris Sununu to form NH-wide water commission

PORTSMOUTH — Stefany Shaheen, a former city counselor, has requested that Gov.-elect Chris Sununu establish a commission on the state's water safety.

Seacoastonline reported that a letter from Shaheen focused on the contamination of a city-owned well at the former Pease Air Force Base, the risk to private wells from the Coakley landfill, and contaminated Merrimack wells while asking to create the commission.

Shaheen wrote that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has new regulations related to potentially-harmful perflourochemicals, (PFCs), and that the Granite State can expect to be dealing with these issues for the coming future.

While Sununu has not yet responded, Shaheen understands that he most likely has an enormous amount of work to address, and is optimistic about her request.
