State's unemployment insurance programs to receive $700,000 in federal grants

The Associated Press

CONCORD (AP) — New Hampshire is receiving nearly $700,000 in federal grants to enhance unemployment insurance programs and reduce the misclassification of employees as independent contractors.

U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez says the grants will help states to ensure payments are available to those who are eligible, and take important steps to reduce and recover improper payments. He said the funds will also identify new ways to level the playing field for responsible employers.

More than $39 million in grants was awarded nationally.
