State Police vehicle struck during New Hampton highway stop

NEW HAMPTON - A State Police trooper suffered minor injuries on Wednesday after his cruiser was struck by a vehicle near Exit 23 in I-93 in New Hampton on Wednesday morning.

Staff Sgt. David McCormick had a car stopped in the breakdown lane with his blue lights on when John Elliot Sparling, of Thornton, crashed into the cruiser with McCormick inside.

McCormick's vehicle suffered heavy damages, and he was transported to Speare Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries and observation. Sparling was uninjured but his vehicle also sustained devastating damages.

The crash is under investigation by the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction unit.
