State police trooper injured in morning accident in Newington

NEWINGTON - A state police trooper suffered a minor injury in a morning accident Monday.

Around 5:15 a.m., Trooper Michelle Montville was investigating a motor vehicle crash on Route 16 southbound in the area of Exit 1 involving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee and a 2007 Nissan Altima.

Montville was parked in the breakdown lane behind the vehicles with the police cruiser's emergency lights activated when a 2011 Lincoln Town Car crashed into the rear of her cruiser. The cruiser then lunged forward and struck the Altima.

The Town Car was being driven by Kirby Link, of Newington.

Montville was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital where she was treated for minor injury.

None of the other drivers were injured in either crash.

One lane of Route 16 southbound was closed for approximately 45 minutes while the scene was cleared.

A preliminary investigation found that Link was traveling too fast for the weather conditions.

This accident remains under investigation and anyone with call contact Sgt. David Kane at (603) 223-8490 or david.Kane@dos.nh.gov.
