Starting the New Year on the right foot - state parks host New Year's Day hikes


If your New Year's resolution involves getting outside or being more active, New Hampshire state parks are hosting several public hikes around the state on Jan 1, 2016.

One is a dog-friendly hike that will happen at the Weeks State Park in Lancaster. Register onsite from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The hike starts at 2 p.m.

Another one is planned for the Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion State Historic Site in Portsmouth and will go along the Little Harbor Loop Trail. Onsite registration run from noon to 2 p.m. The event begins at 12:45 p.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m.

Silver Lake State Park in Hollis is described as an easy hike. The trail is 1.5 miles long, and is estimated to take an hour. Onsite registration runs from noon to 2 p.m. The hike begins at 12:45 p.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m.

There's a 3-mile option in Monadnock State Park in Jaffrey. Onsite registration runs from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. The hike starts at 11:45 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m.
