Somersworth man dies after motorcycle crash in Lebanon, Maine
LEBANON, Maine - A Somersworth man is dead after a motorcycle accident in Lebanon, Maine on Saturday night.
Maine state police say Matthew Goodwin, 26, was riding a 2006 Suzuki 650 motorcycle and was not wearing his helmet. He was apparently heading west on Lower Cross Road around 10:40 p.m.
As he approached the T intersection with Center Road, the motorcycle skidded on its side straight through the intersection, hitting multiple trees and rocks, police said.
Goodwin was pronounced dead at the scene by Lebanon Rescue.
State police say speed and unfamiliarity with the the road appear to be factors, however, a blood test will be done to find out if alcohol was involved.
Police say this was the 27th motorcycle fatality in the state this year and occurred just four miles away from a fatal crash last weekend that killed 40-year-old Randall Goslin of Farmington, N.H.
Troopers are now trying to determine where Goodwin was earlier in the evening. Anyone with information is asked to call Maine State Police in Gray at 207-657-3030 and ask for Trooper Jason Wing.
