Some Laconia residents evacuated, emergency room floods after heavy Tuesday rain

LACONIA – The streets of Laconia had almost 2 feet of water in some areas after Tuesday night’s torrential downpours.

Authorities say the residents of four homes had to be evacuated and temporarily relocated after the city received 3.6 inches of rain between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

There was also over 1 foot of water reported in the emergency room of the Lakes Region General Hospital.

Cars were stranded on many roads and manhole covers were seen floating on Union Avenue before crews were able to clear the city’s storm drains around 9 p.m. allowing the water to recede.
