Somalia: At least 7 killed in double bomb attack

The Associated Press

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) A police officer in Somalia says militants detonated two suicide bomb blasts in a city outside the capital, killing at least seven people.

Capt. Hassan Nor said a suicide car bomber drove into a crowd on Friday in the south-central Somali town of Baidoa, killing seven people after detonating his explosives.

A second blast rang out when a suicide bomber walked into a restaurant, Nor said. He didn't immediately have details of any casualties.

The dual attack comes only days after the region elected a new leader, Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden, the former speaker of parliament.

No group immediately claimed responsibility. The militant group al-Shabab is responsible for the majority of suicide attacks in the country.
