Snowfall, accidents snarl traffic across NH and New England
Monday's afternoon and evening snowfall made travel difficult in New Hampshire and downright dangerous throughout the region.
Several crashes from Salem to Canterbury closed portions of I-93 Monday. A wreck in Enfield closed a lane on I-89. Route 101 off ramps in Raymond and Hampton Falls were closed at times with weather-related accidents.
Highway travel proved particularly dangerous on I-95 in Connecticut. A bus overturned in near exit 61 in Madison, injuring several people traveling from New York City to a casino.
Police say the Dahlia, Inc. chartered bus operated by VMC East Coast carrying 70 people, heading to Mohegan Sun, overturned on the slick highway around 12:30.
Connecticut State police spokewoman Kelly Grant said 30 passengers were able to walk away from the wreck on their own and the remaining were transported to hospitals. First responders originally reported that several passengers were in critical condition. Their actual conditions were downgraded.
Driving was equally problematic in Massachusetts with reports of disabled tractor-trailer trucks.
