WATERVILLE VALLEY — A snowboarding event is making its first stop of the season at the Waterville Valley Resort — a tradition for 14 years.

The Transworld Snowboarding TransAM tour is scheduled to be at the resort's exhibition terrain park on Saturday, Jan. 9. It will wrap up with the finals in Bear Mountain, California, on March 19, with five stops in between.

The Transworld TransAM is a unique slopestyle event that has become one of the premier tours across America in recent years. Snowboarders first compete in a "jam format" that has them all riding down the slopes in a pack. Judges then select 40 riders who advance to the "ultimate jam."

The competition begins at 11 a.m.
