Smoking near medical oxygen might have caused deadly fire in Milton

MILTON - The State Fire Marshal's Office said a man died in a fire in Milton Thursday night at a home at 23 Depot Pond Road.

The Milton Fire Department responded to the home around 9 p.m. Thursday after a neighbor heard a smoke alarm and reported one person still inside.

Crews were able to locate the fire in the kitchen area. After putting the fire out they found the body of a man on the kitchen floor. The NH State Medical Examiner's Office has identified the man as 59 year-old Anthony Disciscio of Milton.

The investigation into cause of the fire and Disciscio's death is ongoing, but preliminary results suggest he may have been smoking too close to medical oxygen.

The State Fire Marshal is reminding you that smoking is the leading cause of burns, reported fires, deaths, and injuries involving home medical oxygen. He recommends checking to make sure your smoke alarms are working and that you have a home fire escape plan.
