Skimming device discovered at ATM in Salem; colors allowed it to blend in

SALEM - Police are investigating a skimming device that was found attached to a Bank of America ATM at the Speedway gas station on North Broadway.

Police say the device was found on Sunday morning by a technician who was servicing the machine. The device matched the color scheme of the ATM and a small camera focused on the PIN pad to capture passwords.

"As technology advances, these devices are becoming increasingly more difficult to detect," police said in a statement, urging people to report any suspicious objects in or around ATMs.

Police say they do not know how long the device was in place at the ATM or how many people's personal financial data was compromised.

Police are encouraging anyone who may have used this ATM to monitor their accounts and contact their local bank.

There are no known suspects at this time.
