Single-car crash responsible for damaging Route 106 utility poles

BELMONT — Officials responded to a single-car crash on Route 106 and Concord Street Thursday.

A witness reported a car left Route 106 while traveling north and jumped the traffic island at Concord Street before entering the woods.

Officers found Carolyn Heoker, 69, of Gilford stuck inside her car at the bottom of a ditch. Eversource was called to service a utility pole and street light.

Along with the damaged utility pole, white birch trees were uprooted after being hit by the 2008 Lexus, which sustained significant damage.

Belmont Fire Department members were able to remove Heoker from the car and transport her to a local hospital for the evaluation of minor injuries.

At this point, the investigator is looking into whether driver inattention and distraction were contributing factors. The matter remains under investigation.
