Singer from NH makes first round of ballots for 59th Annual Grammy Awards

HAMTON — A 23-year-old artist is hoping to make her break-through in the music industry.

Amanda McCarthy, Hampton, started playing music when she was about 15 years old. Like anyone, she remarked, she started playing guitar in high school. A friend of her aunt ran a talent show, and she would frequently participate in it. For much of her career she was very active in the Massachusetts music scene.

The indie/pop rock musician has been inspired by music her whole life, calling her musical style mostly a mixture of Taylor Swift, Fall Out Boy and Secondhand Serenade.

McCarthy's career is quite possibly about to take a big turn.

McCarthy has been working with Al Gomes, of Big Noise music firm out of Rhode Island, in order to get her music out there.

Gomes also happens to be a member of the Grammy board, which landed in McCarthy's favor. Gomes submitted McCarthy's music to the board and she has officially been placed on the nomination ballot for the upcoming 59th Annual Grammy Awards. Specifically, her two songs "Elephant in the Room" and "Bad News" are up for nomination.

The Grammy Board is made up of at least 8,000 members across the U.S., normally music industry people.

This past summer in N.H., McCarthy also had the opportunity to open up for Steven Tyler, Jason Isbell, Frank Turner and Josh Logan, along with performing at the NH Motor Speedway in Loudon during NASCAR Weekend.

Her albums "AAA" and "The Good, The Bad & The Awkward," along with her recent single "Chasing Rainbows" can be found on iTunes and Spotify.

As a New Hampshire native, McCarthy looks to her fellow Granite Staters for support. To listen to McCarthy's music or learn more about her visit her Facebook page or her website.
