Significant damage to Portsmouth apartment building after a fire early this morning


PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Fire Department responded to a fire at an eight unit apartment building on State State early this morning.

The alarm went off at about 2:55 a.m. and the fire was under control by 3:36 a.m., according to officials.

According to responding fire fighters the fire ignited from apt. 6 on the third floor.

They were able to extend a hose into building to extinguish the fire.

There is significant damage to the apartment's interior and exterior walls, the ceiling, and the landing of the fire escape.

No injuries were reported.

The fire department says the fire was most likely accidental yet this fire is under investigation.
