Shaheen returning to NH to tout new energy bill

The Associated Press

CONCORD (AP) — Sen. Jeanne Shaheen is heading back to New Hampshire to tout her energy efficiency legislation just signed by President Barack Obama.

Shaheen plans to tour Bosch Thermotechnology Corporation in Londonderry on Friday morning — a company that produces heating and cooling systems. Obama signed the bill Thursday.

Shaheen's bill, co-authored by Republican Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio, encourages commercial business owners and their tenants to use less energy and requires certain federally leased buildings to disclose their energy usage data, among other things. Shaheen and Portman are still pushing for passage of a larger bill aimed at making the federal government more energy efficient.

Shaheen says the bill will reduce pollution and save consumers money. Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte, also of New Hampshire, is a co-sponsor of the bill.
