Shaheen, Brown tangle over abortion rights record
DERRY - Abortion rights took center stage again in the very competitive US Senate race in New Hampshire.
And once again, Senator Jeanne Shaheen goes on offense with a new ad she says discredits Scott Brown's claim to be pro- choice.
The commercial highlights Brown's support as a Massachusetts state senator for legislation to require a 24-hour waiting prior to an abortion in that state.
Shaheen said Brown can't claim to support women's productive rights while favoring restrictions on their access.
Within hours, Brown reacted angrily calling the ad despicable and demanding Shaheen take it off the air.
Shaheen responded by doubling down, planning to bring former Massachusetts Senate President Theresa Murray to campaign for her and talk about Brown's record on the issue while serving on Beacon Hill.
The first Brown-Shaheen debate on Monday revealed this deep divide Shaheen is hoping to capitalize on by appealing to women voters.
