Sex offender who fled NH on bicycle captured in Florida

MANCHESTER - A Manchester man is in custody after officers in Florida captured the fugitive who fled the Granite State by bicycle.

Edgar Gordon reportedly fled New Hampshire in May to avoid having to register as a sex offender after being convicted of sexual assault of a minor. The trip took him 39 days.

Gordon told police he had been staying in the woods and various shelters when he learned police were looking for him in Florida.

Gordon is being held on charges of failing to register as a sex offender in Florida, but there are plans to extradite him as a fugitive from New Hampshire.

“This is a great example of how the U.S. Marshals fugitive task forces coordinate nationwide to locate sex offenders who no longer wish to comply with state sex offender registries.” U.S. Marshal David Cargill said in a press release.
