EXETER - A house was seriously damaged and an attached barn destroyed by a fire Tuesday evening.
The family living at 8 Oak St. was home at the time and reported the fire around 5:30 p.m., getting themselves and their pets out safely.
One firefighter, however, was taken to the hospital with minor cuts from broken glass.
An attached barn on the back of the house was a total loss and parts of the house itself suffered major damage.
Firefighters said the Victorian-style house was very old and that made it difficult to extinguish the flames. The fire burned hot enough to melt the siding of the house next door, but firefighters were successful at stopping it from spreading.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
A Go Fund Me account has been set up to help the family.
