MILFORD - Services were held Saturday for a volunteer Lyndeborough firefighter who died in a tragic accident Tuesday.
Derek Lankowski, 31, was killed when strong winds blew a tree onto his truck on Route 114 in Weare.
Family, friends and the community filled the Burns Hill Christian Fellowship for a celebration of life. Surrounding police and fire departments participated in a procession, carrying Lankowski's casket past the Lyndeborough Fire Department one last time.
"Lyndeborough is a nice small town," said Police Chief Rance Deware, "It's a tragic loss for everybody."
Lankowski leaves behind a wife and extended family.
The family has asked that contributions in Lankowski's name be made to either the Lyndeborough Firefighter Relief Association, 9 Citizen’s Hall Road, Lyndeborough, NH 03082, or to the ALS Association Northern New England Chapter, The Concord Center, 10 Ferry Street, Suite 309, Concord, NH 03301.
