Sentencing for mother to be decided in case of murdered 3-year-old daughter

The fate of the mother charged with the murder of her own young daughter will be decided over this weekend.

In Friday's closing arguments, prosecutors focused on Katlyn Marin's lack of remorse and lack of tears. The defense said it was the former fiancé who caused the toddler’s death.

The defense reminded the judge that Michael Rivera fled from the home and hid following the death of Brielle Gage.

The prosecution used the term 'cold calculated murderer' several times referring to Katlyn Marin. Noting the woman never cried unless she thought it would help her.

There was no remorse, the state said, adding that Marin was concerned more about her ex-fiancée being questioned in the next room than the fact that her three year old child had just died hours before.

Not lost in the testimony was Brielle, an innocent three-year old.

This was a bench trial, so there was no jury to deliberate. The judge will issue his ruling on Monday.
