Seniors in need of new Meals on Wheels shuttle after bad crash

PLAISTOW - The Rockingham Nutrition Meals on Wheels program has been scrambling for help after a driver crashed into the senior shuttle based in Plaistow early this week. The driver was allegedly texting while driving.

Fortunately no one was injured because the vehicle was empty and parked in a parking lot when it was totaled.

Enterprise was able to provide a rental shuttle so seniors can get to and from the shelter for lunch, but that won’t be the final solution.

The organization desperately needs a new van, but there are no funds for one in this year’s budget. The group told NH1 News they're upset but not surprised about the cause of the crash.

“We see a lot of younger drivers on this road so we weren’t surprised that texting was involved. If our van hadn’t been there to absorb the impact he would have been in the trees or he would have hit the granite post that is right out front,” said site director Emily Low.

Rockingham Nutrition Meals on Wheels delivers meals to seniors in their homes throughout Rockingham County and also runs community dining locations in multiple locations, including Plaistow's Vic Geary Center.

Low said donations are always welcome to their general fund. Anything that you can give will help.
