Security officials: Orlando shooter has no link to NH, but residents must 'remain vigilant'

CONCORD – State Homeland Security and Emergency Management officials have determined there is no direct threat to New Hampshire at this time and continue to work closely with local, state and federal agencies to monitor for new developments.

“At this time, investigators have not established a direct link between the Orlando shooter and New Hampshire,” HSEM Director Perry Plummer said. “We continue to work closely with local, state and federal partners to ensure the safety of New Hampshire and to understand how new developments in the Orlando investigation could impact the state. The best thing each of us can do now is to remain vigilant. We’re asking anyone who sees something suspicious to say something to local law enforcement or to call 911.”

The people who live and work in a community know best when something seems out of place, Plummer said. For that reason, Plummer asks anyone who sees suspicious activity to call local law enforcement or 911.

Suspicious activity is behavior that you have observed that could indicate terrorism or terrorism-related activity, including seeing unusual items or situations such as an unattended bag, unusual behavior such as a person asking questions about building security or procedures, or surveillance such as a person paying unusual attention to a building, Plummer said.

When identifying suspicious activity, officials emphasize the importance of behaviors rather than appearance, Plummer said.

To report suspicious activity, contact your local law enforcement or 911. Tell them who or what you saw, when you saw it, where it occurred, and why it was suspicious.
