Seacoast's COAST bus service revamps route but continues to provide transport

DOVER - A popular bus service on the Seacoast is making changes so it can continue to serve residents in Exeter and Newmarket.

“We had to relook at limiting the geographic coverage of the service to operate between Exeter and Newmarket, through Stratham,” said Executive Director Rad Nichols, who leads the Cooperative Alliance for Seacoast Transportation, or COAST.

As a result, the bus service will operate hourly between 9:30 and 5 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Nichols said the Saturday option is new and COAST hopes it will be a popular new option.

The new service has been designed to make timely connections to the Wildcat Transit Route 5 bus in downtown Newmarket, allowing passengers to travel on to Durham, Dover, Newington, Portsmouth and beyond.

The new service will be operated within Exeter and Newmarket’s FY15 budgets and the amounts previously approved for COAST, the organization said

COAST’s paratransit service will continue to provide transportation to qualified people with disabilities.

“I am very pleased that the services we will retain are so robust and something we can optimally expand in the future,” Nichols said.
