Seacoast residents concerned about proposed upgrade to electric system
NEWINGTON- Newington residents voice their concerns about an Eversource proposal to build a new electric transmission line on the Seacoast. The 13 mile, 115 thousand volt line would begin in Madbury, travel through Durham and Newington, and end in Portsmouth.
Close to 100 residents attended a public forum in Newington Thursday. Many share the same concerns about the large line; they want it to be buried underground so it won't interfere with the residential and historic areas of the town.
Eversource says the Seacoast area's electricity demand is growing twice as fast as any other region in the state. Their current proposal was made by considering a number of factors including cost and environmental impact.
More public forums will be scheduled in the coming months.
