This week women are being invited to construction sites all over the country to help build homes with Habitat for Humanity.
The non-profit organization, which helps build affordable housing for deserving families around the world, set an ambitious goal of providing homes for 1,000 U.S. families by the end of this year. Three of those houses are currently under construction in New Hampshire.
“I like carpentry and I like helping,” Robin Baker said, while taking a break from banging nails at a construction site in Rochester this week.
The two-family home on Glen St. is being built for a local family who has been struggling to make ends meet. Rachel Nickerson’s husband is an Army Veteran and the youngest of their four children was diagnosed with cancer.
“You see these stories on TV of people getting houses from Habitat, and you never think that could be you. I am so thankful,” Nickerson said.
As part of the agreement, families who will live in Habitat homes, work alongside volunteers to help with construction.
o far, more than 1500 volunteers have helped build the Rochester house, which will be completed this fall.
Wells Fargo donated the land and other corporations have donated the construction materials.
Women are encouraged to volunteer at the Rochester construction site Saturday, May 7th. For information please visit: www.Habitat.org.
