Seacoast community shows up to remember fallen firefighter Kyle Jameson
NEWBURYPORT, Mass. - Funeral services for Hampton firefighter Kyle Jameson were held Saturday morning.
Jameson died last Sunday after losing his battle with cancer. More than a thousand of Jameson's friends, family, and firefighting brothers and sisters gathered to honor and remember a man who left an everlasting mark on the community.
Cassie Leavitt worked with Jameson at the Hampton Fire Department as a dispatcher for the last three years.
"It just takes my breath away that he was so well-liked in the community and so well-loved," Leavitt said. "Kyle is an interesting man, he always has a joke. He's always willing to make anybody laugh."
"Once he got sick everyone wanted to be there with him. Everyone wanted to help so that's when team Jameson came along and they really stepped up. Everybody stepped up and they became another fraternity," Hampton Fire Chief Jameson Ayotte said. "So we talk about a brotherhood in the fire service-team Jameson is very much the same."
The funeral service was followed by a celebration of life at the Hampton Casino Ballroom, where more than 1,000 loved ones gathered to honor and remember Jameson. A slideshow of his life as a father, son, and friend, scrolled over those that knew him best.
"Firefighters know how to do that, we celebrate life," Ayotte said. "Kyle knew how to do that better than anybody. He fit two or three lifetimes into one and it was a very short one at that."
Jameson leaves behind a wife and a young son, along with an entire community that promised to remember his humor and good heart.
"To be honest I bet he wishes he had a beer in his hand and was toasting you know? He really is that kinda guy," Ayotte said.

The Halligan Tavern is also hosting an event originally scheduled to raise funds for Jameson’s cancer treatment.
The event will still be held on May 25, and proceeds will benefit Jameson’s wife and son.
