Save Nosey: Somersworth woman petitions to remove elephant from circus

A Somersworth woman wants the USDA to take an elephant from the Liebel family Circus according to Seacoastonline.com.

Barbara Lovett is organizing a rally in Washington, D.C. to have Nosey, also known as Tiny, removed from the circus's custody.

The grievances against Nosey's treatment include allegations that there were exposed metal edges and nails in the animal's cage, evidence of rodents in the food, and chains that prevented Nosey from lying down. The USDA fined the circus $7,500 for these violations of the Animal Welfare Act.

A report also claims that Nosey was not provided adequate medical care.

Lovett said that several high profile animal rights advocates, including Jorja Fox and Lily Tomlin may attend the event.
