Salem's newest police K9 Dash tracks down his first suspect

SALEM - The police department's newest K9 tracked down his first suspect this week.

K9 Dash and his handler, Officer Paul Benoit, were asked to help Derry police locate a man who had damaged some property at Parkland Medical Center. The suspect had jumped off a roof at the hospital and fled into the woods, police said.

Dash was deployed and located the suspect in the woods within several minutes, police said. The suspect, Christopher Abbott, 28, of Derry, was then taken into custody.

Benoit and Dash recently graduated from the Boston Police K9 Academy.
