Salem's finance director placed on administrative leave following shoplifting arrest

SALEM - The city's finance director is facing charges after police said she shoplifted hundreds of dollars worth of items from Macy's.

Jane Savastano, 48 of Salem, was arrested on Friday after loss prevention at the Macy's at the Mall at Rockingham Park said she concealed 11 items - worth $591 - and left the store without paying.

Savastano has been placed on administrative leave from her role as Salem's finance director.

Police said outside prosecutors are helping in the case to avoid potential conflicts.

She was released on $1,000 personal recognizance bail and expected in court on April 4.
