Salem police: Man suffers brain injury from attack involving ex-girlfriend


SALEM - Police say an argument with an ex-girlfriend left a Salem man with a life-threatening brain injury on Sunday.

Salem police arrived on Bluff Street to find the man badly beaten on his front lawn. The man reportedly ran into an ex-girlfriend at the wake a of mutual acquaintance. The man and his former girlfriend began arguing over Facebook, which ended with the woman telling the man to meet her outside his house, police report.

The man recalled hearing a woman's voice calling him from Delaney Way. When the man followed the voice, he was attacked and repeatedly beaten on the head and face, according to the police.

The man was taken to Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Mass., where it was found that he had a brain injury. He was moved to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

The man identified his attacker before going to Boston, and police say this was an isolated event between people who knew each other.
