Salem police make drug bust, respond to heroin overdose death in separate incidents

SALEM - Salem has had two isolated heroin incidents the past few days.

Police responded to a reported heroin overdose at the La Quinta Inn on Keewaydin Drive around 1:35 a.m. Monday morning.

When the authorities arrived, they found a 38-year-old woman of Dracut, Mass. whose name was not released suffering from an apparent heroin overdose. Police say a man in the room who identified himself as her husband confirmed heroin was the drug she was overdosing on, and authorities then administered two doses of Narcan along with other life-saving procedures.

The woman was later pronounced dead at the Holy Family Hospital.

On Friday, Salem Police officers arrested two men from Lawrence, Mass. in a parking lot for reportedly selling heroin. The two men were identified as Francisco Collado-Duran, 33, and Jon Maria, 32.

Additionally, police arrested the alleged buyer, 34-year-old Jared Simone of Salem.

Simone was charged with possessing heroin and falsifying physical evidence as officers allege that Simone attempted to ditch the heroin police later recovered near the site of the reported drug sale.
