Salem Police 'embarrassed' over losing rifle

SALEM - At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday a Salem Police Officer lost his rifle as he exited the Salem Police Station parking lot.

The Officer apparently failed to properly store his rifle in the trunk of his cruiser. He did not notice the rifle was missing until approximately 11:45 p.m that night when his shift ended.

As pictured above, the rifle is in a gray canvas bag and is described as a Colt M4 Commando 5.56mm semi-automatic only patrol carbine with an 11.5 inch barrel.

Salem Police have stated in a press release that if anyone finds the gun or has already found it to please notify the Salem Police immediately and they will take the gun back with "no questions asked."

The police believe that the gun is somewhere around Veterans Memorial Parkway through the Depot area or possibly around the Howard Street block.

The number for the Salem Police Department is 603-893-1911.
