Salem police and fire stations to become 'baby safe havens'

NH1.com

SALEM — The town has joined many others across the country who are committed to protecting newborns abandoned by their parents.

There will be yellow signs at police and fire stations calling these places, a "baby safe haven," The Eagle-Tribune reported.

The goal of this initiative is to reduce the tragedies involving infants who are born to parents that can't care for them.

Across the country, 70 infants were saved last year through this program.

Safe havens aren't limited to police and fire stations. They can be at churches and hospitals as well.
