Brian Powell, 33 of Salem, is facing multiple child pornography charges and is accused of contacting young girls using a web cam and convincing them to undress and perform sexual acts. The victims in this case are believed to be around eight to 10 years old according to police. Federal investigators alerted police to Powell’s illegal internet activity coming from his home in Salem in June 2015, and he was then arrested in November 2015 after a warrant was issued.

After reviewing Powell's personal computer, police said it revealed a collection of child pornography that included several videos which Powell made himself by having contact with girls who were minors through an internet chat service, and persuading them to engage in sexually explicit conduct, which he then captured on video.

Powell is scheduled to be sentenced in August where he faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison, at least 5 years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
