Salem man accused of starting fire at mother's home

The Associated Press

SALEM (AP) — Police have accused a 27-year-old man of starting a fire at his mother's house in Salem as she was inside.

Justin Kane was later found inside his father's home on Sunday afternoon.

Police said Kane and his mother had an argument, and he doused the rear deck with gasoline, lit it on fire, and fled. She said she was standing at the sliding glass door leading to the deck. It wasn't known if she was hurt.

Police tracked Kane to his father's home and arrested him as he was leaving.

Kane is scheduled to be arraigned Monday on charges of arson and reckless conduct. It wasn't immediately known if he had a lawyer. A phone message was left seeking comment.
