Salem church moves thousands of pounds of food to new pantry

SALEM - The Pleasant Street United Methodist Church is moving about a thousand pounds of food from their old pantry their new one.

The facility was built as a multi-functioning building and can act as an emergency shelter if needed.

"We hope by doing this we can cater to a larger population" says chair of the trustees for the United Methodist Church Bernie Campbell. "We give out canned goods, dried goods, meats, bagged groceries and hand out groceries to families on a weekly basis."

The pantry serves about 60 families and will open to the public Wednesday.

The entire building won't be open until later this spring.
