Rye police chief: Surfing, paddleboarding lessons too much on summer holiday weekends

RYE - Police Chief Kevin Walsh has asked the town selectmen for a moratorium on group paddleboarding, surfing and exercise lessons during certain holiday weekends in order to prevent over-crowding at the beach.

On Monday, Walsh asked the Board of Selectmen to consider the ban on Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day.

"They can still do the rentals (of surf and paddle boards), but to have organized camps and lessons, I think it's too much," Walsh told selectmen according to Seacoastonline.

The Shack Surf Shop and Cinnamon Rainbows both renewed permits to conduct business on town property for the summer.
