Rubio wraps up NH visit, blames Democrats for Homeland Security funding impasse
Florida Senator Marco Rubio says it's Democrats, not Republicans, that are tying up funding for the Department of Homeland Security.
Rubio told NH1 Radio Tuesday, "I do think it's ridiculous that they are threatening to shut down the federal government in order to protect an executive order that the president, on 22 occasions in the past, said he didn't have the authority to do."
Rubio is referring to the president's executive order on immigration that's currently in limbo after a Texas judge's ruling last week.
Democrats are blaming Republicans for attaching provisions to the DHS budget that would block the president's order for the impasse in Washington. The deadline to pass the budget is midnight on Friday.
Rubio made his comments as he wrapped up a 2-day visit to New Hampshire amid speculation he's gearing up for run for the White House in 2016.
While he says nothing from the visit changed his timeline, he says that "these visits are informing us in making the decision that I need to make, which is where is the best place for me to serve this country at this time in my life?"
