Route 108 closed briefly after Rochester pedestrian hit by tractor-trailer

ROCHESTER - Route 108 near Rochester Hill Road was shut down briefly this morning after a tractor-trailer hit a pedestrian around 6:15 a.m. Thursday.

Police say the tractor trailer was heading north on Rochester Hill Road when a man stepped into his travel lane. The driver of the tractor-trailer swerved in an effort to avoid the pedestrian but still struck the man, resulting in serious injuries.

The pedestrian, who has not been identified, was treated on the scene and then flown by helicopter to Maine Medical Center.

The driver, Timothy McCormick, 60, of Nottingham was not injured. Police say the accident remains under investigation, but that neither speed nor alcohol appear to have been factors.

Anyone with more information about the accident is asked to contact the Rochester Police Dept at 330-7128 or call Rochester Crimeline at 335-6500.
