Rochester man wanted in NH killed by police in Florida; second man also wanted in NH under arrest

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - A Rochester, N.H. man shot and killed by police in Florida was subsequently identified as a suspect in a Deerfield case where an officer was dragged by a car as he attempted to make an arrest.

Michael Hilber, 29, of Rochester, was reportedly fleeing from officers with the Hernando (Florida) County Sheriff's Office after a reported robbery when he was killed.

Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis said Hilber and another man, Derek Kelley, of Strafford, were wanted in connection with a string of robberies in Florida. Kelley was captured a day after Hilber was shot.

Kelley was believed to be driving the vehicle that dragged the Deerfield officer back on October. Hilber was reportedly a passenger. Both Hilber and Kelley were wanted in New Hampshire.

The run-in with Florida law enforcement followed the armed robbery of a Dollar General store in Brooksville, where two citizens got involved in the pursuit. Police released the dramatic 911 call that alerted them to the incident.
