Rochester man charged in Portsmouth home burglary

PORTSMOUTH - A Rochester man is in custody after police identified him as a suspect in the burglary of a nearby home in the Elwyn Park neighborhood.

Police say they got a call around 1:40 p.m. reporting a burglary in progress. A witness had seen a man breaking into a home and was able to provide a detailed description of the suspect and his vehicle after he fled the area.

Police located the vehicle nearby and arrested the driver, Matthew Temple, 34, of 56A Lafayette St. in Rochester. He was charged with one count of burglary but police say their investigation is continuing.

Temple was held at the Rockingham County jail and is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth District Court Tuesday.
