Karlee was 7-years-old when she was diagnosed with Myelofibrosis and MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome), according to family friend Melena Lugo. Myelofibrosis is an uncommon type of chronic leukemia — a cancer that affects the blood-forming tissues in the body.

She underwent chemotherapy and had her first bone marrow transplant in February 2015 and was in remission. But in late 2015, Karlee started feel sick again and it was determined she had a relapse and her condition was worse.

The disease developed into Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held for Karlee at the Rochester American Legion on Eastern Avenue from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Lugo stated in a Facebook post. Those attending are asked to wear bright colors.
