Rochester crash kills woman, sends driver to hospital

ROCHESTER — A car crashed into a utility pole near 306 North Main Street killing one woman, and sending a man to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries on Tuesday.

Rochester police, fire, and Frisbie EMS responded to reports at 1:22 p.m. to find a 2007 Hyundai Elantra driven by Henry T. Rapson, 70, of Rochester was traveling south on North Main Street when he veered off the southbound shoulder and hit an Eversource utility pole.

One of the southbound lanes remains closed during the investigation.

The woman, who was pronounced dead on scene, was a passenger. Her identity is not being released until family members are notified.

Rapson was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital for treatment.
