FOXBOROUGH, Mass — Rob Ninkovich, the New England Patriots starting defensive end, tested positive for a banned substance.

As a result he has been suspended for the first four games of the 2016 regular season, according to ESPN staff writer Mike Reiss.

He was shocked by the test and said he would never knowingly take any banned substances.

Ninkovich said any supplements he's ever used were bought at a store. He claims he was unaware that anything he bought contained a banned substance.

Ninkovich says his focus is on getting back to 100 percent and being the best teammate upon his return after tearing his triceps muscle during a training camp practice on Aug. 9.
